WHO WE ARE
Who created it?
Bios Urn was created by designer Gerard Moliné in 1997. In 2002, the first working prototypes of the Bios Urn were created and produced. In the year 2002, following the prototype, the Bios Urn won the ADI FAD medal, and in the year 2005, it was a Top Nominee for the INDEX Award and Premio Expohogar Regalo (Exhihome Gift Award). In 2013, Gerard´s brother, Roger Moliné joined the team, and the two brothers launched Bios Urn as a start-up company with the aim of changing the way people understand life.

What is the purpose of Bios Urn?
The intent of Urna Bios is to offer users an alternative for remembering deceased persons in a natural, sustainable fashion, thereby turning the “death” process into regeneration and return to life by means of nature. Our company objective is none other than to offer a economic, ecological and sustainable product that falls in line with our group’s philosophy
Why use Bios Urn?
We like Bios Urn because:
- It is innovative. It demonstrates the possibilities for invention have by no means been exhausted. Creativity can provide real solutions to current problems.
- It is useful. Thanks to its creative process, Urna Bios becomes something necessary to achieve proper growth from ashes.
- It is aesthetic. It is a simple, kind object, designed for our well-being.
- It is understandable. Its shape describes its function. It is self-explanatory.
- It is discrete. Urna Bios leaves no trace of identification that it has been used.
- It is honest. It is a product with a very specific role that does not intend to be more innovative or valuable than it truly is.
- It is long-lasting and independent. Thanks to its manufacturing process, Urna Bios does not “expire”, and as such, its use is not bound by any specific period, epoch or place.
- Its design is democratic. Its price is reasonable and allows for total compatibility in logistics processes and commercial distribution.
- It is sustainable. Both the product and its function imply an environmental, social and economic improvement for a growing problem, overpopulation and metropolis growth.
- It is simple. Less, but better.

HOW TO USE
How to plant Bios Urn?
The Bios Urn is really simple to use. The urn is divided into two separate capsules: the upper capsule is a sealed unit to ensure the good condition of the seed until it begins to sprout; and the lower capsule is where you will store the ashes. You just need to fill the lower cone of the urn with the remains. Then close it with the top capsule and place the seed inside the capsule.
The Bios Urn comes with seeds of your choice, vermiculite, and coco peat to aid in the growth of the tree. Before you bury the urn, you will need to mix the components with some soil from where you want your tree to grow. The components will naturally facilitate germination of the seed when mixed with soil.
Simply plant your urn where you want your tree to grow and take care of it. Always plant all of the urn, which is 100% biodegradable and won’t damage the soil. You can plant your Bios Urn using a seed or a young sprout. The Bios Urn should be planted about 3-5 cm from the soil surface. Once planted, make sure the seed has the appropriate water and humidity levels. If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to message us.
What care does Bios Urn require?
Bios Urn requires much the same care as a normal tree: water, sunlight and good temperature. As such, in order to ensure proper growth, a site with proper soil humidity, an appropriate temperature and few hours of sunlight must be selected. These requirements vary depending on the tree selected, please make sure you adhere to the care requirements for your specific tree. If you are unsure about the requirements, you can message us for help.
If the process requires too much care on the part of the user, a good option is to use a sprout or seedling in place of a seed during the planting process.
Can I use Bios Urn with old ash?
Bios Urn can be used with ash saved from another urn. As such, if you already have the ash in your house, you may purchase the urn and transfer the ashes into it. You can also bring the Bios Urn to a crematorium or funeral home so they can handle the task of transferring the ash for you. Please note, we are not involved in the transferring process.

Yes, the Bios Urn works with any amount of ash. You can use all of the ash, or just a small portion.

What is the Bios Incube?
Bios Incube is the first system that lets you plant your Bios Urn close to you, and combines the insights of tree growth with data from its environment. Depending on the type of tree, the Bios Incube will water it accordingly.
The Bios Incube is versatile and has been designed to fit into any space it is placed in. It’s size, shape, and weight are perfect for indoor or outdoor use.
Dimensions: 30″ Height x 13″ Diameter. 76cm Height x 33 cm Diameter. Capacity: 3 gallons. 11 Liters.
The Bios Incube comes with a sensor device that is used to track your Bios Urn, detect levels of light exposure, assess electrical conductivity, and monitor moisture and temperature in the atmosphere and soil.
The sensor device attaches to the surface of the soil just over the Bios Urn, and is constantly being updated on the growth conditions and status of your seed or tree. Hidden inside the device is a custom piece of hardware equipped with sensors that are capable of tracking and mapping the needs of your tree.
All this information is wirelessly transferred through WIFI to your application, making the data available to you any time, anywhere.
Soil moisture sensor monitors the levels of water in the soil. In order to grow a healthy tree, humidity levels must be respectful.

The irrigation system in the Bios Incube is designed to distribute water homogeneously around the seed, and support cultivation requirements. The Bios Incube will also make sure that the growth medium you use maintains favorable water levels. The Bios Incube can sustain up to 3 gallons of water, enough to nourish your seed or tree for an average of twenty days. The system will also make sure that the water quality is up-to-par, and is conducive to sprout development.
Can the Bios Incube be used for pets?
Can the Bios Incube be used more than once?
Yes, the Bios Urn can be used to grow other trees and plants.
Where should I keep my Bios Incube?
The Bios Incube can be kept inside or outside. If you are interested in receiving notifications from the Bios Incube app, we recommend placing the Incube somewhere with Wi-Fi capability. Depending on the tree or plant species used, more or less sunlight may be required. Please ensure that sunlight requirements are met. If necessary, place the Bios Incube somewhere with adequate light levels.
What if my tree dies?
We´ve designed the Bios Incube in a way that is easy to manage and ensures growth. We created the system to work independently and autonomously, for those who lack green thumbs. It cares, waters, and monitors itself. The first months of growing a tree from a seed are the most important, so the Bios Incube makes this easy. In order to ensure that your tree will grow healthy, please make sure it receives adequate sunlight, and that you choose a tree that is native to the environment. In the off-chance that a tree does not grow, you can plant additional seeds beneath the surface of the soil. Please contact us if you need assistance at [email protected].
What do I do with my tree once it is grown?
Once your tree has grown to an appropriate size, we recommend planting it somewhere natural, such as a forest, or backyard. Please note that trees will only grow in accordance to the volume of their soil. If the tree is left in the Bios Incube, it´s growth will be stunted and it will only grow to reach a certain size, until transplanted to a setting with more soil space.
What kind of seeds can I used with the Bios Urn and Incube?
The Bios Urn has full seed compatibility, and can be used with any seeds. We always recommend using native tree species, to ensure growth, and so that you are respectful to your local environment. Please message us if you have questions regarding seed choices, or inquire at a local nursery to see what options are best suited for your location.
What if I forget to water my tree?
The Bios Incube has a built-in irrigation system that can sustain your tree for up to 20 days. When the Incube requires more water, it will alert you via the Bios Incube application.
How can I check on the growth of the tree using the Bios Incube application?
You can always on the status of your tree through any device with a working internet connection, like a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
How long should the tree stay in the Bios Incube before being transplanted into the ground?
You can keep the tree in the Bios Incube for as long as you want.
Technically, and according to our tests, a tree will reach adequate size within 12-14 months. You can transplant the tree earlier or later. The time period to do so will also depend on the seeds you choose to use. Please note that trees will only grow in accordance to the volume of their soil. If the tree is left in the Bios Incube, it´s growth will be stunted and it will only grow to reach a certain size, until transplanted to a setting with more soil space.

WHERE TO PLANT
Is it legal to bury the Urn anywhere?
Please check with local authorities, but typically the urn can be planted wherever it is legal to plant a tree, including your backyard. We generally recommend natural environments, like gardens, backyards, forests, or parks. Prior authorization may be required for some of these options. Bios Urn for people (and pets) is completely legal. Since it is a unique, novel product, sometimes there are doubts as to whether or not the ashes of a cremated individual may be planted. There are countries that regulate the use of cremation ashes. In some cases, they offer services and permits so that people can scatter ashes in gardens, forests or the sea.
Any individual has the right to use the ashes of a loved one to grow a tree that reminds us of our loved one.
Are there burial sites/cemeteries offering this option?
You would need to investigate this for yourself. The urn does not necessarily need to be in a burial site or cemetery. Many have made arrangements with divisions of parks and forests to have trees planted along trails or in parks where trees are protected. This really depends on your municipal, state or provincial government. Typically green burial grounds, and cemeteries do allow for the planting of a Bios Urn, and can help you make arrangements.
Are traditional cemeteries willing to bury this type of urn?
More traditional cemeteries are offering it as an option, however you need inquire within.
