Every few months we check in with our customers to see how they are doing, and how their Bios Urn® is growing. Sumi replied to one of our recent email´s, and sent us a photo of a beautiful tree. Along side her photo, she stated: ¨This is how amazing it has been. Thank you all…¨
We asked for her permission to share her and her mother´s story with the world, and Sumi was more than happy to participate and share her story.
Olga wanted to return to nature
Sumi used a Bios Urn® with a Bougainvillea tree to honor her mother. She planted the Bougainvillea in a terracotta planter, in her home in Miami, Florida. Every day, she steps outside and is greeted by the bright Bougainvillea tree, and it´s blooming fuchsia flowers.
Sumi´s mother, Olga Orta, passed away in 2016, and one of her last wishes was to have her ashes spread into a forest, or to return to nature in one way or another. While Sumi didn´t initially know what to do for her mother, she knew that traditional burial was out of the question.
When Sumi discovered the Bios Urn®, she knew it was the perfect thing to do for her mother. She ended up ordering a Bios Urn®, and went on to choose a beautiful Bougainvillea tree – which was an easy decision, because it was one of her mother´s favorites. She planted in 2016, on her mother´s birthday, March 31st It was special to mark the day with her mother´s day of birth, as it was in some ways a celebration of her life.
“It’s not only helping the environment but it’s so nice to see your loved one grow into this beautiful tree,” she said. “It’s kind of like they are still alive in a physical form. It’s amazing to see how much she’s grown.”
Olga´s Bios Urn® was planted in a terracotta planter, which is a wonderful place to plant the Bios Urn®. Many people don´t know it can be used with any kind of planter, so long as the size is suitable. We are thankful for Sumi, and people like Sumi who took a chance on the Bios Urn®, a seemingly new product, simply because it resonated with them on a personal level. As we´ve mentioned in other posts, we always find it amazing to see the trees that people choose, and the places they choose to plant them – as these are highly personal decisions, and no Bios Urn® is really the same.
Each Bios Urn® planting is unique
Each planting, each location, is specific to the individual and family, and no two Bios Urns® in the world are the same. That´s the beauty of these stories, there is a sense of autonomy and choice. Sumi left off her last email to us, saying this: ¨It is truly nice of you to get my mom’s Bios Urn® story out to the world in hope many others may consider doing such a wonderful thing with their loved ones ashes.¨

I very much want to become involved in one of these ideas, but I’m wondering if you would please clarify a point for me. You say that the plant (pictured) is approximately 1 year old, but judging by the trunk it is far older than 1 year. Could you please clarify this for me. I just don’t understand how a plant could mature so quickly.
Thank you.
Linda

Hello Linda,
The Bougainvillea was planted one year ago with a small seedling, so it very well could be older than one year. It was merely planted a year ago on her mother´s anniversary.
The Bios Urn can be used with either seedlings or seeds.
