Alkaline Hydrolysis as an alternative of eco-friendly cremation

Since the ancient times, when a loved one left this world, there were several ways to dispose of the body (depending on the region, religion or circumstances): in Ancient Egypt the body of the Pharaohs was embalmed; Vikings put the corpse on a ship in the middle of the sea and lit a fire to burn it; the first Christians buried the body.

What’s involved in the process?

The body is put inside a stainless steel cremation chamber and a mix of chemical components (water and alkali solution of potassium hydroxide) is heated to high temperature, pressure is put and the body is hydrolyzed. The result is a greenish liquid (will be discarded) and soft white bones remains for returning to the relatives .

There are many advantages to advantages this type of cremation: there is no need to smash the bones (as it occurs with flame-based cremation) since the mix of products dissolve everything; the emissions of dioxide carbon are less (and the cost as well!); and medical implants of the departed can possibly be recycled.
